John Michaels


John Michaels has been a producer, a financier, and an executive in the film industry for over two decades. He has successfully delivered and continues to deliver numerous independent and studio feature films.

In May of 2016, John helped launch the film financing entity, AngelWorld Entertainment at the Cannes Film Festival. As Head of Production for AngelWorld, John evaluates each package for its viability and profitability within the global marketplace based on his international expertise.

The Norwegian based WR Entertainment Group sought out John in 2011 to be their President of Production. During his tenure with WR, the company acquired worldwide rights to produce the film adaptations of the best-selling “Morgan Kane” series.

Prior to that, John signed on with Magnet Media Group as President of Production in November 2008. He took on an ambitious production slate serving as Executive Producer, in 2011, for the film entitled “Dark Tide,” starring Academy Award winner Halle Berry and Olivier Martinez. In 2010, Michaels Executive Produced “The Experiment,” starring Academy Award winners Adrien Brody and Forrest Whitaker. In 2009, he completed “13” as Co-Executive Producer with an ensemble cast including Jason Statham, Mickey Rourke, Sam Riley, Michael Shannon, Ray Winstone, and Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson which was distributed by Paramount Advantage.

From 2001 through 2008, Michaels served as a Key Advisory Board Member and President of Production for VIP USA. During that time, Michaels evaluated, approved and supervised 58 projects for the German Media Fund. VIP amassed investment funds worth over one billion dollars during Michaels’ tenure making it a leading financier of motion pictures throughout the world.

VIP Co-Financed and Produced such films as: “Perfume: Story About A Murderer,” starring Dustin Hoffman, Ben Whishaw, and Alan Rickman. “All the Kings Men,” starring Sean Penn and written and directed by Steven Zallian. “Lucky Number Slevin,” starring Josh Harnett, Sir Ben Kingsley, Bruce Willis, and Lucy Lui. “The Upside of Anger,” starring Kevin Costner and Joan Allen. “Lord of War” starring Nicolas Cage, Ethan Hawke, and Academy Award winner Jared Leto. “Monster” starring Academy Award winner Charlize Theron. “Alpha Dog,” starring Emile Hirsch, Bruce Willis, and Justin Timberlake. “The Punisher,” starring John Travolta and Thomas Jane.

As an independent Producer, Michaels also produced “Quiet Days in Hollywood,” starring two-time Oscar winning Actress Hillary Swank, “The November Conspiracy,” starring Paige Turco, George Segal and Elliot Gould, and “Sunset Heat,” starring Dennis Hopper and Michael Pare.

He has served as a Line Producer, a Unit Production Manager and Production Executive on numerous feature films, television projects, documentaries, and commercials. Michaels is a member of the Director’s Guild of America and serves as a frequent guest lecturer on international production and financing for the UCLA Film School, CSUN and Chapman University. Michaels also serves as a moderator for the Master Class Seminar on Finance & Production at the annual Cinegear Expo in Los Angeles.
